Dental benefits, in plain words

Use your benefits before they run out.

Tell Cusp the dental work you need and add your plan. It shows what you will owe, and the best order to book care across your plan year.

No sign-up. The demo runs in your browser on sample data.

The problem

Your plan answers one question. You have another.

What the plan says
Major services are payable at 50% of the maximum allowable charge, after the calendar year deductible, subject to the alternate benefit provision and the annual maximum.

What you need to know

My dentist says I need a crown. What will I owe?

Every term in that sentence is precise, and none of it is a number. Benefits that reset each plan year are easy to leave unused when nobody explains how to use them.

How it works

Three questions, answered in order.

  1. Challenge ask 1

Describe the work and your plan

Say what you need in your own words, in any of ten languages: a crown on a back tooth, two fillings, a cleaning. Add your plan by uploading the benefits PDF, photographing your card, or pasting the text.

  2. Challenge ask 2

    See what you will owe

Cusp turns the plan's language into a plain breakdown: what is covered, what the plan pays, and what is left for you, with each term explained next to its number. In network and out of network, side by side.

  3. Challenge ask 3

Book it in the right order

Care is sequenced across your plan year so the deductible is paid once, the annual maximum is used well, and nothing is left to expire at the end of the year.

    1. MarCrownPlan pays $425
    2. JunFillingPlan pays $160
    3. NovCrownPlan pays $450

$1,035 of $1,500 annual maximum used

    $465 would expire unused

Beyond the estimate

Three things that stop benefits slipping away.

Annual maximum tracker

See how much of your yearly maximum you have used and how much is left, for each person on the plan.

In network or out

The same procedure priced both ways, with the difference spelled out before you choose where to go.

Year-end reminders

One reminder for each expiring benefit, with the date and the amount. No streaks, no pressure.

Your real plan

Upload the booklet. See where every number came from.

Drop in your benefits PDF or a photo of your plan card. Cusp reads it and lays out the key terms. Each value comes with the quote it was taken from and its page, and Cusp checks that the quote really appears in your document.

  • Benefits booklet or summary of benefits, as a PDF
  • A photo of your insurance card or a plan page
  • Scanned documents work too
  • Anything Cusp cannot confirm is flagged for you to check, and every value is editable before it is used

3D teeth

Tap a tooth. See what your plan does.

An interactive model of all 32 teeth. Select one to see what is planned, how your plan classifies it and what you would owe. Mark teeth that are missing, crowned, filled or implanted, so missing-tooth clauses and frequency limits apply to your mouth, not a generic one.

Ten languages

In your language, and out loud.

Every explanation is written in the language you choose, with currency and dates formatted for it. Arabic lays out right to left. Read-aloud uses a speech service when one is available and falls back to your device's voice. This site is in all ten, too.

Under the hood

The AI reads and explains. Code does the math.

Money has to be auditable: the same inputs give the same dollars, every time. So the language model never produces a figure.

  1. Your words and plan
  2. AI readsStructured, schema-checked
  3. Engine computesInteger cents
  4. AI explainsIn your language
  5. Your estimateFigures from the engine

AI stepPlain code

  1. Deterministic cost engine

Deductible, coinsurance, annual maximum and network rates are computed by plain code in integer cents. No rounding drift, no figure from a language model.

  2. Schema-constrained AI output

When the AI produces data, its answer must match a strict schema with real enumerations, and values are range-limited. Text you type or upload is fenced as data, never followed as instructions.

  3. Grounded extraction

Each value read from your document carries an evidence quote and a page. The server checks every quote against text extracted from the same document, and flags what it cannot verify instead of guessing.

  4. Hard spend cap

A persisted ledger on the server tracks AI spend and stops calls at a cap the operator sets. API keys exist only on the server, never on your device.

  5. Graceful degradation

If a service is unavailable, Cusp says so and keeps going. Read-aloud falls back to your device's voice, unverified values are marked for review, and the sample plan runs without the network.

When connected to a Cusp server

  • The text you type and the documents you upload go to the server, which passes them to Anthropic's API to be read.
  • Uploaded files are not saved to disk, and document contents are not written to logs.
  • Read-aloud sends the sentence to be spoken to a speech service, unless your device's own voice is used.
  • Cusp is a hackathon prototype. It has not been audited or certified, so do not upload documents you would not hand to one.

Estimates, not promises

Cusp gives estimates from the plan terms and fees it is given. It is not a guarantee of coverage and not a claim decision: your insurer's explanation of benefits has the final say. It is not medical, legal or insurance advice. Your dentist decides what care you need.
